How to fast & detox

So you want to detox - and are considering a fast? In Detox Your Life, Jane Scrivner outlines the golden rules of fasting:

  • do not fast if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, suffer from any illness, heart condition or diabetes, are taking prescribed drugs, or have doubts about your health.
  • decide when you wnat to fast and for how long - a mini-fast(18 hours) or a mini-mini fast (14 hours).
  • you must start and finish gradually
  • leading up to the fast, you should cut out caffeine, processed foods and alcohol
  • the 3 meals prior to your fast should be light consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables, pulses, rice and plenty of fluids.
  • throughout the fast you should:
  • drink plenty of hot water, lemon juice and honey
  • take vitamin c supplements every four hours
  • drink at least 2 litres of fluid in the form of water or juices

If hunger becomes unbearable then have to hand some black grapes to nibble on.

Once you have finished your fast, you should again eat only light meals consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables, pulses, rice and plenty of fluids, particularly pure water. Then you should slowly reintroduce your normal foods, taking note if anything causes irritation or discomfort. If this occurs then eliminate the irritant foods and detox your diet.

Each time you fast you are flushing our the small build-up of toxins and waste. Fasting regularly after a complete detox program will maintain your original detox at its fullest potential.

When detoxing take care of the quality of your juices, water and foods…you are highly sensitive when detoxing.
